Moderen synger
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)
Available translation(s): FIN FRE
Gretchen ligger i kiste
dybt i den sorte muld.
Gav jeg hende en kyse,
foret med røden guld.
Sænked i sorten kiste
Gretchen så skjær og fin.
La' de kolde små hænder
over det hvide lin.
Ene i natten jeg sidder,
Stormene går over hav,
river alle de blomster
fra lille Gretchens grav. --

La mère chante
Language: French (Français)  after the Norwegian (Bokmål)
Gretchen gît dans un cercueil
sous la terre noire.
Je lui ai donné un bonnet
doublé d'or rouge.
J'ai descendu dans son noir cercueil
Gretchen, si pure et si belle.
Posé ses froides petites mains
sur le linceul blanc.
Je suis seule dans la nuit,
les tempêtes passent sur la mer,
elles arrachent toutes les fleurs
de la tombe de la petite Gretchen.
