Der Knab untr einer Linden stund,
Er höret der Red ein Ende.
»Hilf, reicher Christ im Himmel hoch,
Zu welcher soll ich mich wenden?
Ich will die Reiche fahren lan,
Will bhalten die Säuberliche.
Wir zwei, wir sind noch jung und stark,
Groß Gut wolln wir erwerben.«
Gab ihr von Gold ein Ringelein
An ihr schneeweißen Hände:
»Sieh da, du feins brauns Mägdelein,
Von dir will ich nit wenden.«

Deux bonnes amies se promenaient
Sur une prairie, qui était verte ;
L'une était de très bonne humeur,
L'autre très triste.
« Mon amie, ma très chère amie,
Pourquoi es-tu tellement affligée ? »
« Toutes les deux, nous aimons le même garçon ;
Nous ne pouvons pas le partager.
« Et si toutes les deux nous aimons le même garçon,
Que Dieu nous aide, que va-t-il arriver ? »
« Alors prends les biens de mon père,
Et mon frère avec ! »
Le garçon se tenait sous un tilleul,
Il entendit la conversation jusqu'à la fin.
« Aide-moi, bon Jésus, au plus haut des cieux,
Vers laquelle dois-je me tourner ?
Je laisserai la riche passer,
Et je garderai la plus soigneuse,
Tous les deux, nous sommes encore jeunes et forts.
Nous acquerrons un grand bien. »
Il lui tendit un petit anneau d'or
Vers ses mains blanches comme la neige.
« Tu vois, ma jolie brunette,
Je ne peux pas te quitter. »
