Meniskos
Language: English  after the Russian (Русский)
On that wild cape, which was crowned with poor sedge,
covered by ancient shrubbery and by the greenery of pines,
mournful Meniskos, the old fisherman, buried
his dead son. The sea had nurtured him,
and the same had taken him into its broad bosom,
And the dead body had gently washed ashore.
After mourning for his son, the father under a spreading willow tree
dug a grave for him and, having covered it with a stone,
hung over it a fish-trap made of woven willow --
A meager monument to their gloomy poverty!
