Mezzosoprano Giovane derelitto, solo una cosa gli resta, unico conforto: che colei, che ha fedelmente amato da tanti anni, si trova protetta dal soffio del morbo nel principesco palazzo paterno; là rinfrescanti zampillano le fonti, e dolce si effonde per le sale una fragranza balsamica, e l'aria è pura, pura come la fronte che accarezza. Tenore solo Ma osserva, chi si avvicina furtiva verso il triste cespuglio, simile alla dea della salute, con guance rosee fresche di primavera! E' proprio lei, e scorge fra i raggi della luna, che lievi la illuminano, la sposa fedele che si avvicina. Ella abbraccia l'amato, preme il roseo suo volto al pallido volto di lui, bagna nel lago la sua chioma ondeggiante per dare frescura alla fronte di lui. Il giovane Tu qui? Allontanati! Un solo mio alito è portatore di morte!
