The little seed germinates, The bird sings, Spring has come; The spring bubbles, The brook flows brightly, The little fish comes swimming along. And everywhere There are joyful sounds, [Everything] is in joy-filled motion, For bliss and delight Fill every breast, [And] the grass on the heath. The bee hums, The hornet buzzes, The spider spins her nets; She sits hidden, Her eyes flash, She is pondering spoils and hunting. And the mosquito flies, And is trapped in the net, Before it realizes it; And while it still thinks: "How did it come to pass?" All is over with it. My child, hidden Are many nets, Suspended here and there; One looks and looks And trusts and trusts, And is caught in the net.
