Daar het land en, o vader, God groot Van uw dochter verlangt straks de dood, Uw gelofte van krijg ons bevrijdt, Doorsteek mij, ik sta al bereid. Ja, de tijd van mijn rouwklacht is om, En de bergen zien nooit mij weerom! Als de hand die ik liefheb mij doodt, Is de pijn van de dood vast niet groot. En ik zweer u, eerlijk en goed, Dat zo rein is mijn kinderlijk bloed Als de zegen, waarvoor 'k word geslacht, Als op aarde mijn laatste gedacht'! Als Jerusalems maagdenschaar klaagt, Wees dan rechter en held onversaagd! De triomf werd verkregen door mij, En mijn vader en 't land zijn nu vrij! Als geen bloed uit mijn lichaam meer komt, En de stem die gij1 liefhad verstomt, Denk immer wie roem u verwierf, En vergeet niet hoe 'k glimlachend stierf.
