Wenn die Sonne niedersinket, Und der Tag zur Ruh sich neigt, Luna freundlich leise winket, Und die Nacht herniedersteigt; Wenn die Sterne prächtig schimmern, Tausend Sonnenstrahlen flimmern: Fühlt die Seele sich so groß, Windet sich vom Staube los. Schaut so gern nach jenen Sternen, Wie zurück ins Vaterland, Hin nach jenen lichten Fernen, Und vergißt der Erde Tand; Will nur ringen, will nur streben, Ihre Hülle zu entschweben: Erde ist ihr eng und klein, Auf den Sternen möcht sie sein. Quan el sol es pon i el dia se’n va a reposar, l’afable lluna, silenciosa, fa l’ullet i davalla la nit; quan les estrelles brillen magníficament, mil raigs de sol pampalluguegen: l’ànima se sent tan gran, s’allibera de la pols. Esguarda de grat vers les estrelles, com un retornar a la seva pàtria, enllà, vers aquelles lluminoses llunyanies, i oblida les foteses de la terra; ella vol només lluitar, maldar, escapar-se del seu embolcall: per a ella la terra és estreta i petita, amb les estrelles voldria estar. Si a la terra bramulen les tempestes, si la falsa fortuna recompensa els malvats: esperançada, mira cap amunt, on regeix el jutge de les estrelles.
