Im Wald in grüner Runde, Wo Wipfel über Wipfel schaut, Auf stillem Wiesengrunde Hab' ich die Hütte mir gebaut; Sie steht, bewahrt vor Stürmen An graubemooster Felsenwand, Baumriesen sie umtürmen, Die schützen sie mit Freundeshand; Ins Fenster blüht die Rose, Die Rebe grünt hinauf zum Dach, Mit heimlichem Gekose Rauscht nah vorbei der Wiesenbach. Im Wald zur guten Stunde Hab' ich die Stätte mir erschaut, Und auf entlegnem Grunde Die traute Hütte mir [gebaut]1. Vom Frühroth angelächelt, Wie blickt ins Grün sie lebensfrisch! In 't woud, door groen omgeven, Waar boomtop over boomtop schouwt, In een der stille dreven Heb ik een hut mijzelf gebouwd. Zij staat, beschut voor stormen, Bij 'n grauw bemoste rotsenwand, Boomreuzen hoog, enorme, Beschermen haar met vriendenhand. In 't venster bloeien rozen, De wijnstok groeit naar d' oversteek, Met keuv'len en met kozen Ruist dicht voorbij de weidebeek. In 't bos te goeder ure Heb ik de plek eerst goed beschouwd, En ver van alle buren De knusse hut mijzelf gebouwd. Heel vroeg al, rood omvademd, Kijkt zij in 't groen, hoe levendig! Door avondwind omademd, Verzinkt in 't dal zij dromerig. Des middags houdt met lover Een zoon van 't woud1 een scherm haar voor. Des nachts golft zacht getover Om haar van 't weide-elfenkoor.
